Application membership
Use the Members portlet to view individuals and groups working with the application according to their assigned roles. If you have permission to manage application membership, we can also use the Members portlet to add and remove members to the application and assign membership roles.
Membership integrates people and business process by providing role-based access to composite application resources: the application, its pages, and the components on each page. Membership brings together the people who most frequently collaborate in the activities of a particular business process. The activities of the business process take place in the collaborative work context -- where people with assigned roles use the available tools to meet the objectives of the team, the business unit, and, ultimately, the corporate or community enterprise. In composite applications, members with role-based access to application components work more efficiently with each other and with the resources available to the team. Managers maintain membership lists, role assignments, and permission levels to tools and content.
- Restricted applications
Application managers can use the Members portlet to restrict the use of a composite application to members with assigned roles.
- Public applications
Application managers can use the Members portlet to make a composite application open to all authenticated users.
- Membership principles
Understanding the principles that govern membership for composite applications is important for assigning access to applications and components, managing application membership roles, and learning how role-based access affects application users ability to work with composite applications.
