To create a new application catalog, copy an existing application catalog portlet, assign user access to the portlet, and place it on one or more portal pages.

The procedure described in the following steps refers to the predefined application catalog, which has the portlet title Applications and the unique name wps.p.App Catalog. The portlet application that contains the predefined application catalog is Application Catalog Manager. The portlet parameters for an application category are cdoType and cdoBundle. Collaborative Domain Object (CDO) is the name of the composite application object in the object model.

  1. Log in to the site as an administrator.

  2. From the main menu, click...

Administration | Portlet Management | Applications

  3. Search for and find Application Catalog Manager, the portlet application for the predefined application catalog, Applications:

  4. In the list of portlet applications, click the name Application Catalog Manager to display the portlet contained in this application, Applications. Notice the unique name wps.p.App Catalog.

  5. Click the Copy portlet icon.

  6. In Copy portlet, type a new name for the portlet application and for the application catalog portlet and click OK. For example, type Teamspace Catalog Manager for the name of the new portlet application and Teamspaces for the name of the new application catalog. The Portlets list now includes the name of the new application catalog portlet.

  7. For the new application catalog portlet, Teamspaces, click the Configure portlet icon and view the two parameters: cdoType and cdoBundle. Do not edit these parameters; keep the default values.

  8. Click I want to set titles and descriptions to specify the foreign-language text for the new application catalog title and description:

    1. Find the locale you want and click the Edit icon.

    2. Type the text that you want the to display in the selected language.

    3. Repeat these steps for each locale that the organization supports.

  9. Select the option Enable parallel rendering to allow the new application catalog portlet to be displayed at the same time as other portlets rather than waiting for all other portlets to finish rendering on the page.

  10. Click OK to save changes. The new application catalog is now listed in the Manage Applications page for the portlet application that contains it. We can also see the new application catalog listed with the other portlets in the Manage Portlets page.

  11. In either context, Manage Applications or Manage Portlets, find the new application catalog portlet in the list and click the Assign Access icon to display Resource Permissions. Here we can assign user access to the new application portlet.

  12. Now we can add the new application catalog to the pages of the work site using the Portlet Palette or the Manage Pages portlet. Consider these alternatives:

    • Create a new page for the application catalog.

    • Add the application catalog to an existing page of the work site, for example, the Application Library page.

    • Add the application catalog to more than one page of the work site.

Application users will be able to see the new catalog for all composite applications of the new category. They will be able to open and work with applications of the category from the catalog wherever it appears in the pages of their work site.
