Migrating to WebSphere MQ V6.0

This chapter describes how to migrate from previous versions of WebSphere MQ to WebSphere MQ V6.0. For additional information about migrating to WebSphere MQ V6.0, including information on migrating Secure Socket Layer (SSL) connections and using Internet Protocol version 4 and Internet Protocol version 6, see the WebSphere MQ Migration Information.

If you migrate from a previous level of this product, we cannot revert to your previous level, so back up your system before you install WebSphere MQ V6.0. This will enable you to back off the upgrade if necessary. If you back off the upgrade, however, we cannot recover any work performed by WebSphere MQ V6.0.

With WebSphere MQ for Windows, the installation process detects whether this is a new installation or an update from a previous level of this product. If you migrate from an earlier level, all the objects that you previously created (for example, your queue managers) can be maintained. The components that were previously installed are preselected in the feature options when you install the new level. If you leave these components selected, we can keep them or reinstall them. However, if you deselect any of these components, the installation process will uninstall them.

WebSphere MQ for Windows, V6.0 no longer supports the following features, previously available in MQSeries systems. If any of these features were previously installed, when you migrate to the new level of WebSphere MQ, the installation process will uninstall them.
