Verify WebSphere Portal
Launch WebSphere Portal
The best way to verify that WebSphere Portal has been installed and is working properly is to launch WebSphere Portal:
- To launch WebSphere Portal have all required servers running. Make sure that the following servers and components, if applicable, are started:
- Database
- LDAP server
- An external Web server
- WebSphere Application Server
- The WebSphere_Portal enterprise application
- After the servers are all running, open a Web browser and enter the WebSphere Portal page URL:
http://hostname.setgetweb.com:port_number/wps/portalwhere
- hostname.setgetweb.com is the fully qualified host name of the machine.
- WebSphere Portal is running and port_number is the transport port that was created by WebSphere Application Server.
This value is also stored in the WpsHostPort property in the wpconfig.properties file.
For example...
http://www.ibm.com:9081/wps/portalIf you have customized the WebSphere Portal page URL -- for example, by modifying the base URI portion of the default URL (wps) or the WebSphere Portal page (portal) -- be sure that you enter your customized URL.
- WebSphere Portal should load in the browser.
If you get an Internal Server Error, WebSphere Application Server might not have completely started yet. Wait a couple of minutes to ensure that WebSphere Application Server has completely started and try to access WebSphere Portal page again.
Run the validation task
There is also a configuration task that you can use to verify the operation of WebSphere Portal. This task can be a useful aid when attempting to determine the status of WebSphere Portal.
To run the task, do the following steps:
- Go to...
cd wp_root/config- Enter one of the following commands:
./WPSconfig.sh validate-wps-admin-login -DPortalAdminPwd=portalAdminPassword- Any errors that are generated by the configuration task are stored in the messages log.
