Sites and Site Areas

Sites

Sites are used to group a set of Site Areas and Content.

The default relationships between Authoring Templates and Presentation Templates for an entire site can be set in Site Items. These are overruled by relationships set in Site Areas.

Multiple Sites can be created within the same instance of IWWCM.

Components, Presentation Templates, Taxonomies, Workflows, Users and Groups can be used across different Sites.

Site Areas

Site Areas are used to build the Site Framework within which content items are grouped. The Site Areas that comprise the Site Framework can be classified into Parents, Children and Siblings. The vertical hierarchy of a site is split into Parents and Children. Parents are the top level of a group of Site Areas. Children are the Site Areas below a Parent. Depending on where you are within your site, Site Areas can act as both Parents and Children. Site Areas that share the same Parent are known as Siblings.

Building a Site Framework

At their simplest level, Site Areas can be used to categorize and group Content items. Beyond this, some issues need to be considered when building a Site Framework.

Site Navigation IWWCM Technology can generate Navigators that are based on the Site Framework. The structure of the Site Framework can determine what is displayed within a Navigator

For example, if you would like to use a "Table of Contents" Navigator to display a list "Content types", then create a Site Area for each Content group.

Authoring Templates and Presentation Templates Site and Site Area items are also used to build links between Authoring Templates and Presentation Templates. The Authoring Templates and Presentation Templates you choose when creating a Site or Site Area file determine how Content will look in the web site.

If you have different Content based on a single Authoring Template and would like the Content to display in different Presentation Templates, you will need a separate Site Area for each Authoring Template/Presentation Template combination.

Site and Site Area Components Sites and Site Areas can be used to store a group of Components that can then be referenced in other IWWCM items. This is useful if you would like a Component referenced in a Presentation Template to change depending on what the Current Site or Site Area is. E.g., you may want a different header-image to display for each Site Area.
