Copy packages

Use Copy Packages to create repositories.

Verify that you are running IBM Packaging Utility 1.4.1 or later. Earlier versions of Packaging Utility might not be compatible with all packages. Some earlier versions of Packaging Utility produce an error that packages cannot be copied or can copy packages incorrectly without displaying an error. By Update Packaging Utility before copying packages, you can avoid these errors.

Tip: When copying update packages from the IBM site, you might receive the message: "The update application_version does not have its base offering (application_version) in the open set of repositories". In this message, application is the plugin name of the product and version is the version of the product. This message indicates that Packaging Utility cannot find the base offering that is associated with the update offering. In Packaging Utility, you must either open a repository that contains the base offering or your destination repository must contain the base offering to copy the packages.

Procedure

To copy packages:

  1. On the Source page of the Packaging Utility, select the packages that you want to copy and click Next.

In the next step, you must specify an existing repository that you have access to or create a folder that serves as a repository. The existing repository can be on a network share or local disk location.

  2. On the Destination page, click Browse and select an existing repository directory, or create a folder to store the products. If you specify an existing repository, that repository must be on a shared network drive or it must be on your local machine.

  3. After you specify a repository for the selected packages and any fixes, click OK to close the Browse to a directory window. The file path that you defined is displayed in the Directory field on the Destination page.

  4. Click Next to display the Summary page. The Summary page displays the selected packages that are copied into the destination repository. This page also lists the amount of storage space that the copy requires, as well as the amount of available space on the drive.

  5. Click Copy to copy the selected packages to the destination repository. After the copy process is finished, a Complete page opens and displays all the packages that were copied successfully.

  6. Click Done to return to the Packaging Utility main page.

What to do next

After you use the Packaging Utility to create a repository, you can use the Preferences page of IBM Installation Manager to define this location as a repository. You can place the repository on a UNC drive or on a web server to make the directories and files available over HTTP. Example of an UNC drive: \\machinename\enterpriserepository
