Silent installation roadmaps
Typically, silent installations require three main steps: installing IBM Installation Manager, recording a response file, and then installing the packages silently. When we install in silent mode, the user interface is not available. The response file provides the input for installation. There are two routes for completing a silent installation. To find out the route that applies to your installation scenario, see Use Installation Manager or the installer to install packages.
Installation Manager
Use Installation Manager to install packages silently:
- Install Installation Manager. See Manage Installation Manager in silent mode.
- Record a response file using Installation Manager, or Create a response file manually.
- Create a storage file to store credentials for authenticating repositories, proxies, and response files stored on protected servers. Storage files are only necessary when your installation accesses servers that require authentication. If the servers do not require authentication, then we do not need to create a storage file.
- Install a package silently using a response file.
If we stored credentials for a repository in a storage file. See Manage packages silently from authenticated repositories with Installation Manager.
Installation Manager installer
Use the Installation Manager installer to install packages silently:
- Record a response file for the package. See Record a response file with Installation Manager.
- Modify the response file to install Installation Manager. See Modify a response file to install a package and Installation Manager.
- Create a storage file to store credentials for authenticating repositories, proxies, and response files stored on protected servers. Storage files are only necessary when your installation accesses servers that require authentication. If the servers do not require authentication, then we do not need to create a storage file.
- Install the package and Installation Manager using the response file. See Install packages silently using the installer.
