Rational Test Lab Manager integration overview

Rational Performance Tester and Rational Service Tester for SOA Quality provide Rational Build Forge sample projects that demonstrate the ability to launch automated scripts fromRational Quality Manager with Rational Test Lab Manager.

Rational Test Lab Manager is a web-based quality solution integrating the management and deployment of test environments within the quality management lifecycle. Rational Test Lab Manager relies on Rational Quality Manager and Rational Build Forge to automate the installation of test products such as Rational Performance Tester and Rational Service Tester for SOA Quality

A set of sample projects for Rational Build Forge are provided to demonstrate the automation of Rational Performance Tester, Rational Service Tester for SOA Quality, and Rational Performance Tester Agent controller from Rational Quality Manager with Rational Test Lab Manager.

They also show how automation can be used to configure and start the Rational Quality Manager adapters in Rational Performance Tester and Rational Service Tester. Each site will need to customize the Build Forge projects and Installation Manager response files.

All of the files mentioned in this topic are located in install_dir \RPT-RST_RQMAdapter\rtlm_buildforge\RPT-RST_RTLM_Samples.zip, where install_dir is the directory where the test workbench is installed, for example, C:\Program Files\IBM\SDP.

Projects and response files have been provided for Windows and Linux.

See the Rational Quality Manager information center for more information about integrating with Rational Build Forge.

Troubleshooting

Problem Solution or cause
Projects do not appear in Lab Management > All Automations.

  • Check that projects appear in Build Forge. The projects must be imported into Build Forge before they appear in Rational Quality Manager. You can import the projects running import.bat.

  • Ensure that Build Forge has been configured to allow Rational Quality Manager to connect to it. See the Rational Quality Manager information center for details.

  • Ensure that Rational Quality Manager has been configured to point to the Build Forge server. See the Rational Quality Manager information center for details.

  • Some time is required before Rational Quality Manager is synchronized with Build Forge.

To force synchronization, in Rational Quality Manager, use the Synchronize/Discover buttons in the Lab Management > All Inventory History view.

  • In Rational Quality Manager, check Lab Management > All Inventory History. This view contains the logs related to synchronizing products.

Servers do not appear in Lab Management > All Automations.

  • Check if the server exists in Build Forge. If it is not defined then define the server in the Build Forge management console.

  • Check if the server has connectivity to its Build Forge Agent. To verify connectivity, click the Test Connection button in the Build Forge server details area.

  • Check that both Build Forge and Rational Quality Manager are configured to be used together. Refer to the solutions for projects not appearing in Lab Management > All Automations.

The Rational Quality Manager automation job fails.

  • Check the Rational Quality Manager automation log for the failed job. Start with the last step executed before the automation failed.

  • In Build Forge, check the log for the last job.

All of the projects end up calling either the INSTALL or UN-INSTALL Build Forge library so it is necessary to check the log for INSTALL or UN-INSTALL.

  • In Build Forge, if the job fails because it could not retrieve a response file, then verify server has GET permission.

  • Ensure Installation Manager is installed on the target machine before starting any Rational Performance Tester or Rational Service Tester for SOA Quality automations on that target machine. Verify Installation Manager is installed in the default location.
