Uninstall a single server on Linux

You can uninstall WebSphere Portal only or both WebSphere Portal and IBM WAS using either the graphical user interface, console mode, or silent uninstallation program.

Prerequisites

Prepare to uninstall a single server on Linux

Perform the following tasks to uninstall WebSphere Portal:

  1. Ensure that you are logged in as the root user before performing the uninstallation task; this step is especially important if you operate WebSphere Portal with a non-root user.

  2. Run the ./stopServer.sh WebSphere_Portal -username admin_userid -password foo task, from the WP_PROFILE/bin directory, to stop the WebSphere_Portal server.

  3. Verify that there are no other installations or uninstallations running.

  4. Locate and delete the /tmp/portalinstall.lockfile file if present.

The Portal installer creates the portalinstall.lockfile to prevent two installations or uninstallations from running simultaneously. This is a temporary file and ordinarily gets deleted when the installation or uninstallation successfully completes, but it may not get deleted during an aborted or crashed procedure. Until this file is deleted, it will not be possible to initiate another installation.

  5. Enter one of the following uninstallation commands:

    Uninstallation commands

    Option Commands
    GUI $PORTAL_HOME/uninstall/uninstall.sh
    Console mode $PORTAL_HOME/uninstall/uninstall.sh -console
Silent $PORTAL_HOME/uninstall/uninstall.sh -options "/path/to/installresponse.txt" A sample uninstall response file (uninstallresponse.txt) are located in the setup CD root directory.

Do not place the response file in a path that contains a space and do not put a space in the file name.

  6. Remove any remaining WebSphere Portal directories from directory structure.

  7. Examine all running processes and kill any that contain the PORTAL_HOME/uninstall directory or restart the machine, especially if you intend to reinstall WebSphere Portal on the same machine.
