The inline tag and rating widgets
For users who do not like dialog boxes, the portal provides an alternative user interface for tagging and rating content. It displays tags and ratings for users to view directly in the page by using inline widgets.
The inline widgets include buttons that users can click to open the dialog tag and rating widgets so that they can apply tags and ratings.
A default portal installation provides the inline tag and rating widgets for Web Content Manager content and for blogs and wikis. You can add inline widgets to other portal content and to custom content as well.
Advantages of the alternative user interface
The following lists some of the advantages of the alternative user interface. This list might help to decide which of the two user interfaces you want to use.
- Reduced amount of clicks: users do not need to enter Edit mode or invoke a dialog to set their tags and ratings.
- Faster access to information that is of interest: Users can immediately view which tags or ratings are available for a specific resource.
- Easier ways to apply new tags or ratings: Only one click is necessary to add new tags and ratings.
- This works for all resource types, such as pages, portlets, Web Content Manager managed content, custom content etc.
- You can use and embed this user interface in an unobtrusive way wherever you like.
