Promoting page

After you have published page to the target server and tested it, you can promote the page so that all users on the target server with the appropriate access rights can view the page.

If a promoted page with the same unique name exists already, the previously promoted page becomes the old version of the page. If an old version of the page with the same unique name exists already, that page is overwritten.

To promote a page on the target server, perform the following steps:

  1. Test the page on the target server to ensure that it is correct.

  2. Navigate to the Site Management page by clicking Administration -> Site Management.

  3. If necessary, select the server where the published page resides by selecting the it from the pull-down list.

  4. Click the plus sign ( + ) next to the root page name to expand the server site tree.

  5. Right click on the label or page or URL that you want to promote, then click Promote this page. If you promote a label or a URL, the promotion takes place without further prompting. When you promote a page or a page subtree, and a page or subtree with the same unique name exists already, select a customization option, as described below.

      Promoting a single page

If you promote a single page on the target server, you have the following options:

        • If this page has not been promoted yet: Promote this page.

        • If this page has been promoted before, but no promoted sub nodes or sub pages exist for this page:

Promote this page -> And remove customization

This option overwrites customized preferences to the replaced page.

Promote this page -> But preserve customization

This option preserves customized preferences to the replaced page.

        • If a page tree has been promoted with this page before:

Promote this page -> Keep target sub nodes and remove customization

This option overwrites customized preferences to the replaced page and keeps the promoted sub nodes and pages.

Promote this page -> Keep target sub nodes, but preserve customization

This option preserves customized preferences to the replaced page and keeps the promoted sub nodes and pages.

Promote this page -> Delete target sub nodes and remove customization

This option overwrites customized preferences to the replaced page and deletes the promoted sub nodes and pages.

Promote this page -> Delete target sub nodes, but preserve customization

This option preserves customized preferences to the replaced page and deletes the promoted sub nodes and pages.

      Promoting a page subtree

If you have a published page tree already and you want to promote the page sub tree on the target server, you have following options:

        • If no page has been promoted for the root node of the subtree: Promote this subtree.

        • If a promoted page for the root node exists, but no sub nodes or sub pages have been promoted for this root node:

Promote this subtree -> And remove customization

This option overwrites customized preferences to the replaced page.

Promote this subtree -> But preserve customization

This option preserves customized preferences to the replaced page.

        • If a page subtree has been promoted before and exists:

Promote this sub tree -> To add and update pages and remove customization

This option adds and replaces pages and nodes on the target portal by those from the published version and leaves sub nodes and pages that are not affected unchanged. It overwrites customized preferences to replaced pages.

Promote this sub tree -> To add and update pages but preserve customization

This option adds and replaces pages and nodes on the target portal by those from the published version and leaves sub nodes and pages that are not affected unchanged. It preserves customized preferences to replaced pages.

Promote this sub tree -> To create a duplicate sub tree and remove customization

This option adds, replaces, and removes pages and nodes on the target portal to exactly match the sub tree of the published version. It overwrites customized preferences to replaced pages.

Promote this sub tree -> To create a duplicate sub tree but preserve customization

This option adds, replaces, and removes pages and nodes on the target portal to exactly match the sub tree of the published version. It preserves customized preferences to replaced pages.

There is a known issue with the promote options that include the removal of the customization data. The customization is not removed at this time. As a workaround you can do the following:

            1. Export the page or pages that you have promoted with the descending nodes by using the Manage Pages portlet or the XML configuration interface.

            2. Adapt the result file: Delete all the nodes from the customization domain domain="cust" by setting the action attribute of those <content-node> tags to action="delete" . Also remove nested tags within that <content-node> , as the syntax of the XML configuration interface does not allow subelements in a delete action.

            3. To remove the customization for these pages, import the modified result file into the portal by using the XML configuration interface.
