Linux stand-alone: Set up Oracle or Oracle RAC automatically or manually

You can set up Oracle Enterprise Edition to work with WebSphere Portal automatically or manually. When setting up Oracle automatically, the database administrator runs a ConfigEngine task to create users, grant privileges, and create JCR table spaces. As an alternative to automatically setting up the database, you can manually run scripts to create users, grant privileges, and create JCR table spaces.

Modify Oracle or Oracle RAC database properties
Create Oracle or Oracle RAC databases

Automatic configuration provides a faster path for database administrators for setting up Oracle, but does not provide in depth knowledge of how the database is configured. Manual configuration allows database administrators to understand what is going on at each end of the process. The speed of automatic database setup but you would like to gain a better understanding of what is happening during the automatic configuration process, you can review the steps in the manual configuration section and then return to the automatic configuration steps.
