How to wire widgets and portlets in page builder

For wiring widgets together, the Page Builder theme includes the wiring widget that the IBM Mashup Center and mashup integration use. This widget has been extended to accommodate the additional wiring options. These include wire matching by qname and the payload matching supported by iWidgets.

The wiring interface works in the same way, regardless of whether the source or target component is a widget or portlet.
Limitations:

  1. You cannot wire across pages to a widget.

  2. To set up cross page wiring for portlets, use the wiring portlet, not the wiring widget.

  3. You can only wire a portlet to a widget, if the page is client side.

  4. You cannot wire widgets by using the wiring portlet; that portlet does not list the widgets.

  5. Cross page wiring only works if the sending page is server-side; it cannot be client-side.

To wire two components together, proceed as follows:

  1. Activate Edit mode by selecting Actions -> Edit Page from the theme Actions menu.

  2. To launch the Wiring widget, activate the skin Actions menu of the source component.

  3. Make selection from the available content that the source component can send to another widget.

  4. From the list of widgets on the page select the widget that you want to receive the content.

  5. Select the action that you want the target widget to take when it receives the content.

  6. Click Done to close the Wiring widget.

  7. Click Save to save the changes or click Save & Exit to save the changes and leave the Edit mode.

When using the Page Builder to make changes to the wire model, the changes will not be reflected until after reloading the portal page. To always refresh the portal page automatically when saving changes made in the Edit mode, navigate to Resources -> Resource environment -> Resource environment providers -> WP CommonComponentConfigService. Set the cc.theme.alwaysRefreshOnPageSave property to true and restart the Portal server.

You have wired the widgets or portlets together.
