Deploy a widget from the Mashup Center to the portal

Administrators can deploy widgets from the Mashup Center to the portal. When an administrator has deployed a widget from the Mashup Center to the portal, portal users can add that widget to the portal and use it on their mashup pages.
Notes:

  1. You cannot deploy a widget URL to the portal. To determine that you can deploy the widget, select the widget, click on Details and verify the value of Source is not iWidget URL.

  2. You can deploy a widget Package to the portal only if you have the appropriate access rights on the portal. At least, be assigned a Manager or Administrator role to install a Web module. Depending on the configuration of the Deployment Manager, you might also need deployment rights on WAS.

  3. Portal clusters do not support the automatic start of widgets. The widget will show in the toolbox, but it is not loaded when it is added to a page. As an administrator, first synchronize all cluster nodes and then start the widget applications.

  4. If you want non-administrative users to be able to deploy lightweight widgets, configure the WebDav file store accordingly. For details about how to do this refer to the topic about Configuring the WebDAV file store.

  5. The user interface controls in user interface might differ from the ones given in the procedure described below, because the options visible in the mashup hub depend on its configuration. For details refer to the topic about Configuring the portal to work with the Mashup Center.

To deploy a widget to the portal...

  1. Open the Mashup Center.

  2. Click the search input field in the upper corner and search for the widget.

  3. Hover the mouse over the widget.

  4. Click Details.

  5. Click Actions -> Deploy to WebSphere Portal.

  6. Provide information about the portal:

    • Enter the address of the portal server including the context root, for example http://localhost:10039/wps/.

To add a widget to a virtual portal that is not defined by host name, but by using a virtual portal context, enter the following URL:

        http://host:port/wps/mycontenthandler/virtualportalcontext?uri=model:service-document

        Example:

        http://localhost:10039/wps/mycontenthandler/vp1?uri=model:service-document

    • Use the current credentials or specify alternative credentials as appropriate. To use the current credentials, single signon must be enabled between the portal and the Mashup Center.

  7. Click Finish to deploy the widget to the portal.

  8. If the widget is already deployed, select the appropriate operation:

    • To redeploy the existing widget, select Replace.

    • To cancel deployment, select Do not replace.

  9. Click Finish again to complete the operation.
