Create a child policy

Create a child policy to refine the parent policy. The child policy is based on the rule currently selected for the parent policy.

A rule must exist and be selected for the parent policy. In the Portlet Types view of the Resource Policies portlet, click New Policy.

To create a child policy:

  1. In the policy editor, specify the following properties:

    1. Enter a Policy title.

        For example, American Mail Locales.

    2. Optional. Enter a Policy description.

    3. Select a Policy condition from the list.

        For example, Americas.

If the condition you need is not listed, create a new condition by editing the rule: Select Edit Rule from the policy rule menu.

  2. Specify the settings for this policy. For each policy setting, determine whether the value inherited from the parent policy will persist in this child policy or be overridden.

    1. Select Use Parent Value if you want the value inherited from the parent policy to persist in this child policy.

    2. If you do not select Use Parent Value, specify the Modified Value for the setting.

    3. Select Allow Changes in Children if you want child policies to override the value specified in this policy.

If you choose to let a value in the child policy override the value in the parent policy, inheritance from the parent is broken. Changes to the value in the parent policy will not propagate to the setting in this child policy.

After you create a child policy, it is listed in the Policies table of the parent policy along with its condition. For example, the Policy Types -> Mail view will show the child policy American Mail Locales and the condition Americas in the table.

Use the policy menu to edit the policy settings, select a condition for the policy, assign user access to the policy, or delete the policy and all its child policies. Click the policy name to create one or more child policies.
