Entering identification information

Specify identification information for the current item, including the name and title for the item and the list of authors and owners associated with the item. The identification section is common to all item forms.

  1. Type the name of the item in the Name field. The name of sites, site areas and content items are used to construct the URL path for those items. The name of components are used when referencing components in Web content tags.

    • The value you type can contain only alphanumeric characters (a-z, A-Z, 0-9), spaces, and the following characters: $ - _ . ! ( ) ,

A period " . " should not be used in an authoring template name, field name within an authoring template, a resource collection name or attribute name within a collection if using Personalization to personalize Web content.

    • Do not use double-byte or non-ASCII characters.

    • You can create different item types with the same name, although this is not recommended.

    • You can create items of the same type with the same name so long as the path to the item is different.

For example, you can create two categories with the same name so long as they are saved under different categories:

      • \taxonomyA\categoryA\shoes

      • \taxonomyA\categoryB\shoes

      • \taxonomyB\categoryB\shoes

    • Names are case insensitive, so you cannot create one item named "content" and another item of the same item-type named "Content" in the same path.

  2. Type the title of the item in the Display Title field. The title is the text displayed to end-users when viewing a list of items. Unlike the name, titles can use double-byte and non-ASCII characters.

  3. Type a brief description of your item in the Description field.

The information entered here should describe the purpose of the item.

  4. Click Select Authors to select the users and groups you want to classify as "authors". You can use the authors of an item as a search or filter parameter.

    1. To add an author, click Add. Select either Users or Groups.

Type text to search for in the Search field and then click Search. (Leave the Search field blank to display all users or groups.) Select the required users or groups and then click OK.

    2. To remove authors, select the authors you would like to remove and then click Remove.

  5. Click Select Owners to select the users and groups you want to classify as "owners". You can use the owners of an item as a search or filter parameter.

    1. To add an owner, click Add. Select either Users or Groups.

Type text to search for in the Search field and then click Search. (Leave the Search field blank to display all users or groups.) Select the required users or groups and then click OK.

    2. To remove owners, select the owners you would like to remove and then click Remove.
