Content settings for Web Content Viewer

Web Content Viewer content settings specify content from a Web content library to display in the portlet.

If no Web content has been selected in the Configure or Edit Shared Settings mode, the portlet displays content specified in the Web content section of the page where the portlet resides, configured using Manage Pages administration portlet.

Click Edit Page Properties from the page menu, and specify the content item in the Advanced options section.

Only published content can be displayed with the Web Content Viewer. Draft content cannot be displayed and cannot be selected when configuring a Web Content Viewer.

Display the content of a content item, select Content Item

  1. Click Edit under the Content section to select the content item to display.

If no content item is selected in the portlet, the Web content specified in the page properties of the page containing the portlet is used for rendering.

  2. Click Edit under the Alternate Presentation Template section to select an alternate presentation template to use when the content item is displayed.

If no alternate presentation is selected, the content item will be displayed using its default presentation template.

Display the content of a component, select Component

  1. Click Edit under the Component section to select the component to display.

  2. Click Edit under the Content section to select the content item to use to give the selected component a context.

For example, if a content item called "news" is selected as the context for a navigator, when the portal page is first opened, the navigator will behave as if "news" is the current content item.

If no content item is selected in the portlet, the Web content specified in the page properties of the page containing the portlet is used for rendering.

Display the content of an element stored in a content item, select Element

  1. Click Edit under the Content section to select the content item.

If no content item is selected in the portlet, the Web content specified in the page properties of the page containing the portlet is used for rendering.

  2. Select the element to display from the selected content item under the Element section.

Page context

If the current page has an active page context, the configured content item or element will not be visible if the portlet is configured to receive links from other portlets. A page context always exists when a portlet has broadcast a content item to this page previously. You can delete an active page context by clicking Clear page context.

Locked settings

If a lock icon is displayed for setting instead of an Edit link, the setting has been locked using the Configure mode and cannot be changed using Edit Shared Settings.

Configuration by ID versus path

Though this dialog shows the title paths of the configured items, most items are actual configured with their unique ID. This has the advantage that the configuration does not break if an item is renamed or moved. But if the XMLAccess scripting interface is used to configure the portlet, it is possible to alternatively configure the items with their content path. This removes the burden from the XMLAccess user to find out the unique ID of an item. But if an item is renamed or moved, this kind of configuration breaks. To make the user aware of an item that is configured with its content path, a path icon (

) is displayed after the title path. When using the Edit Shared Settings or Configure mode to reconfigure an item that has been configured by Path before, the new item is configured by Path as well. Only if the Clear button is pressed before selecting a new item, the path icon disappears and the newly chosen item is configured with its unique ID.
