Creating a portlet WAR without access to a server

If you are developing a portlet and do not have access to a IBM® WebSphere® Portal server installation on either your local machine or on a remote machine, you can still create a portlet WAR.

In the New WebSphere Portlet Factory Project wizard, in the Deployment Configuration section, click the Edit button below the Portal Server Deployment Configuration section.
In the Edit Deployment Configuration dialog, make sure that the WP Root input is blank.
When the portlet is created, you need to manually move it to where it is available to the portal server, and manually deploy it to the server.
