Portlet Factory, Version 6.1.2

Deploying portlets to the IBM WebSphere Portal

Once you have created the models for your portlets in IBM® WebSphere Portlet Factory Designer, you can deploy them to the WebSphere Portal by running a script in the WebSphere Portlet Factory WEB-INF/bin/portlet_deployment directory. There are actually two scripts; one for creating WAR files for portlets under development and another for creating WAR files for portlets that are no longer under development and are ready to be deployed to a production environment. There are also two bash shell scripts for creating portlet WAR files in a UNIX environment. After running the deployment script, install the generated WAR as a portlet application using the WebSphere Portal's Portal Administration tools.

In summary, you can create and install a portlet WAR file for portlets you created with WebSphere Portlet Factory by performing these steps:

  • Configure one of the deployment scripts according to your environment.

  • Run one of WebSphere Portlet Factory's deployment scripts.

  • Install the generated WAR as a portlet application using the WebSphere Portal's Portal Administration pages.

  • Add the portlets contained in the portlet WAR to pages in your portal.
