To set up the Common Mail portlet for remote use, set up two WebSphere Portal servers:

The Producer provides the remote mail portlet as a WSRP services.

The Consumer is the server that integrates remote portlets offered as WSRP services. The Consumer will display and allow end users to interact with the remote mail portlet.

To enable WSRP support for an instance of Common Mail to be used as a remote portlet, add the parameter wsrp_remote_portlet to the portlet instance and give it the value true. To add the parameter, from the portal banner, select...

Administration | Portlet Management | Portlets | YourPortlet | Configure (wrench)

...and follow the instructions on the page for adding a parameter.

Due to current limitations, a WSRP Producer that hosts a remote mail portlet must be directly accessible by browser. If not, pop-up browser components used by the remote portlet, such as Spell Checker and the People Finder, will not work.

Checklist of tasks:

  1. Set up the WSRP Producer
  2. Creating the remote portlet on the Producer
  3. Set up the WSRP Consumer
  4. Enabling access to the remote portlet from the Consumer
