Manage the directory server configuration
Use the Directory Server Configuration page to configure the directory server in the IBM Security Identity Manager virtual appliance.
Install the directory server. Make sure we create the directory server DN location. See Install the directory server.
Configure or reconfigure the directory server options. See Table 1.

- Configure with existing LDAP database
- Configure an existing LDAP database and specify the LDAP database configuration.
When we select this check box, the configuration uses the existing IBM Security Identity Manager schema and data.
- Host name
- Name of the server hosting the directory server.
The acceptable formats for the host name are IPv4, FQDN, and IPv6. For example, isimldap.example.com.
- Port
- Directory service port.
For example, 389.
We can select or clear the SSL check box to manage the secure connection.
- Principal DN
- Principal distinguished name.
For example, cn=root.
- Password
- Password for the directory server.
- Organization name
- Name of the enterprise or the organization.
For example, JK Enterprises.
- Default organization short name
- Specify the abbreviation or short form of the organization name.
For example, jke.
- IBM Security Identity Manager DN Location
- Directory server DN location.
For example, dc=com.
Reconfigure
- Host name
- Name of the server hosting the directory server.
The acceptable formats for the host name are IPv4, FQDN, and IPv6. For example, isimldap.example.com.
- Port
- Directory service port.
For example, 389.
We can select or clear the SSL check box to manage the secure connection.
- Principal DN
- Principal distinguished name.
For example, cn=root.
- Password
- Password for the directory server.
- From the top-level menu of the Appliance Dashboard, click Configure > Manage External Entities > Directory Server Configuration. The Directory Server Configuration page displays the Directory Server Configuration table.
- Click Configure.
- In the Directory Server configuration details window set. See Table 1.
- Click Save Configuration to complete this task.
A window with certificate information is displayed if we selected the SSL check box during configuration.
- Click Yes to confirm. The directory server reconfiguration takes some time. Do not refresh or close the page. Wait for the reconfiguration process to complete.
- Optional: To reconfigure an existing directory server configuration, do these steps.
- Before reconfiguring, create a snapshot to recover from any configuration failures. See Manage the snapshots.
- From the Directory Server Configuration table, select a record. For example, IBM Security Identity Manager User Registry.
- Click Reconfigure.
- In the Edit directory server configuration details window, edit the configuration variables. See Table 1.
- Click Save Configuration. A window opens that displays the certificate information.
- Click Yes to confirm. The directory server reconfiguration takes some time. Do not refresh or close the page. Wait for the reconfiguration process to complete.
- Optional: To unconfigure an existing directory server, do these steps:
- From the Directory Server Configuration table, select a record.
- Click Unconfigure.
- Click Yes to confirm the deletion.
After we configure the directory server, configure the database server. If you already configured the database server, we can reconfigure it. See Manage the database server configuration.
