Manage category versions

The Category Manager can create, delete, list, view, and restore versions of categories. When creating a category version, the following parts of the category are saved in the version repository:

• Code

• Name

• Short description

• Long description

• Keyword

• Display to customers

• Thumbnail (Reference to the image but not the image itself)

• Full image (Reference to the image but not the image itself)

• Associated assets (References to the assets. For example, if you modify the assets, the changes are reflected in the version)

• Parent catalog or category (Reference to the parent catalog or category)

Note: Business objects contained in the category (subcategories, catalog entries) are not part of the category version.

• Creating versions of categories
  We can create versions of a category. For example, before we make any changes to a category description for an event, we can create a version. After the event is over, we can restore a previous version.

• Listing category versions
  We can view the versions of a category. For example, to restore a previous version we can locate the version easily from the versions list and preview the versions.

• Comparing category versions
  Use the Compare View to compare a category with one of its versions or to compare two category versions before restoring a category version. For example, we can compare the differences between the category name or category short description.

• Restoring a version of a category
  We can restore a version of a category. For example, before making changes to a category, we can create a version to save the latest changes to the category. If we are not satisfied with our changes, we can restore a previous version.

• Deleting versions of categories
  We can delete a version of a category. When you delete a category version, the version is removed from the versions list and is no longer available for restore.
