Moving databases between WebSphere Commerce machines
How do you import a database from one WebSphere Commerce database server into another? For example, if you have two WebSphere Commerce Servers (same versions) and you want to use the database from one server on the other server.

Answer

Use the following instructions to set up the machine in order to move the database (using DB2 Universal Databaseā„¢):

  1. On the import server, create a user with the same user name as the user from your export server that WebSphere Commerce uses to access the database. This user must be an administrator.

  2. Open the Configuration Manager (start the Configuration Manager service before you can open the Configuration Manager).

  3. Expand the tree on the left panel, to get to the database:

    WebSphere Commerce > node > Commerce > Instance List > commerce_instance > Instance Properties > Database > database_name

  4. Select the database to open the configuration items.

  5. Change the database user name and password to the new user you created in step 1.

  6. Click Apply.

Once this is set up, back up the database on the export server, then restore the database onto the import machine (you will need to use the 'into' keyword when importing the database if the database names are not the same).
