Install the WebSphere Commerce Update Installer

The WebSphere Commerce Update Installer is the tool you use to apply fix packs and APARs to your WebSphere Commerce installation.

The WebSphere Commerce Update Installer is used to apply maintenance to IBM WebSphere Commerce v6. It is packaged as a separate installable program. You must first install the Update Installer before you can apply the WebSphere Commerce maintenance packages (.pak files) to your WebSphere Commerce configuration.

Do not apply any maintenance for WAS using the WebSphere Commerce Update Installer.

To install the Update Installer:

  1. Ensure that you have the appropriate privileges:

    • AIX|Linux|Solaris|root user rights.

    • I5/OS|*ALLOBJ and *SECADM authority

      • If you plan to use the Graphical User Interface Installer, perform the steps below on the client machine, for example, a Windows machine.

      • If you plan to use the Silent installer, perform the steps below on the iSeries machine.

    • Windows: Administrative User Rights.

  2. Create a temporary directory. This temporary directory will be referred to as UPDI_tempdir.

  3. If you have a version of the WebSphere Commerce Update Installer on your machine, determine your version of the Update installer by running the following command:


    You must always use the most recent version of the update installer. For information on the most recent version of the update installer, refer to WebSphere Commerce Update Installer.

  4. If the version of the WebSphere Commerce Installer, that is installed on your machine, does not match the most recent version available on the download site download the WebSphere Commerce Update Installer and save it to the UPDI_tempdir directory.

    I5/OS|

    1. If you plan to use the Graphical User Interface Installer, download the i5/OS specific file to the client machine, for example, a Windows machine.

    2. If you plan to use the Silent installer, download the i5/OS specific file to the i5/OS machine.

  5. Expand the Update Installer package found in the UPDI_tempdir directory.

  6. You can install the Update Installer through either a graphical install or a silent install options:
