Troubleshoot: Errors encountered during the GUI installation of the fix pack to the Remote WebSphere Commerce Management Utilities client

When attempting to apply a fix pack a message is logged stating the fix pack can't be installed.

 

Problem

The installation fails when attempting a GUI install on the Remote WebSphere Commerce Management Utilities client. The following error message is produced 
Update installation unsuccessful: The following maintenance package 
could not be installed: 

WebSphere Commerce 6.0.0.X

where X is the number of the fix pack installed.

 

Solution

If you encounter this error, you could have be multiple fix pack entries in C:\WINDOWS\.nifregistry. Complete the following steps:

  1. Back up C:\WINDOWS\.nifregistry.

  2. Open the file in a text editor.

  3. Remove any incorrect entries; leave only the entries that are actually installed on the system.

  4. Reapply the fix pack.
