Web Services Invocation Framework (WSIF)

WSIF is a WSDL-oriented Java API. We use this API to invoke web services dynamically, regardless of the service implementation format (for example enterprise bean) or the service access mechanism (for example Java Message Service). Use these topics to learn more about WSIF.

Use WSIF, we can move away from the usual web services programming model of working directly with the SOAP APIs, towards a model where you interact with representations of the services. We can therefore work with the same programming model regardless of how the service is implemented and accessed.

We should not use WSIF for new applications in WebSphere Application Server, unless we are supporting an existing WSIF configuration. We should instead adopt a more recent open standard, such as the JAX-WS programming model.

To learn about WSIF, see the following topics:

Apache no longer supports WSIF.
