Migrate and installing IBM HTTP Server > z/OS systems
We can install the IBM HTTP Server for WAS product on z/OS systems. Order the V6.1 PTF for WebSphere Application Server that contains the IBM HTTP Server for z/OS to get started.
IBM HTTP Server for z/OS is powered by Apache and provided with WebSphere Application Server. It supports 64-bit architecture and IPv6.
IBM HTTP Server for z/OS, which is provided with WebSphere Application Server, is different from the V5.3 HTTP Server for z/OS, which is provided with the z/OS base operating system and is not powered by Apache. The information contained within the IBM HTTP Server product documentation pertains to IBM HTTP Server for WAS, not the V5.3 HTTP Server.
Install IBM HTTP Server using SMP/E and then run an install script to create a configuration in the install directory:
- WAS code for the IBM HTTP Server V6.1 is installed into the WAS for z/OS Optional Materials tree. The default location is: /usr/lpp/zWebSphere_OM/V6R1/HTTP/Server.
- After we install the product code, choose an installation directory for each IBM HTTP Server instance that we want to run under z/OS. Each server instance requires its own installation directory.
- We can use an install script provided with IBM HTTP Server to: Copy files into this directory, perform initial customization, and create symbolic links to the product code directory.
We can use the Web server jobname or other identifier in the installation directory name. For example:
/opt/wwww/webserver1 /var/webservers/AAST1In the instruction examples in the following topic for installing IBM HTTP Server, an installation directory of /etc/websrv1 is used.
