After setting security with LDAP, use this information to verify that the LDAP server for WebSphere Portal has been properly configured.

Perform the following steps to verify that the LDAP server is properly configured:

If you configured security while configured to use a database other than Cloudscape, do not rerun the database-transfer task. This task will not transfer the data inserted during the enable-security task and will cause WebSphere Portal to become inoperable. To recover from this situation, you have to disable security and run the security task again.

  1. Go to WebSphere Portal and create a new user by clicking Sign-up.

Note for Active Directory: Until secure socket layer is enabled for Active Directory, it is not possible to set passwords for users or, therefore, to create new users. You will need to log on using an existing or default administrator userid and password. If login is successful, Active Directory should be correctly set up.

  2. Log in to WebSphere Portal as the user you have just created.

If the login is successful, the LDAP server should be working correctly. The content resulting from logon may vary according to user role. If you do not receive an error message, we can assume that the LDAP server is functioning properly.
