AIX Fixes

Software to install

 

Procedure:

Before running any of the processes below, stop Portal, and any Java processess...

  1. On node1srvr, install Java SDK 1.4.2 Cumulative Fix ()

    • scp 6.0.2-WS-WASJavaSDK-AixPPC32-FP00000019.tar to /u01/wp6/AppServer
    • tar xvf 6.0.2-WS-WASJavaSDK-AixPPC32-FP00000019.tar
    • cd /u01/wp6/AppServer/bin
    • . ./setupCmdLine.sh
    • cd ../updateinstaller
    • ./update -silent
    • Verify success: vi ../logs/update/*.install/updatelog.txt

  2. On node1srvr, install IBM WAS V6.0.2.19 ()

    • scp 6.0.2-WS-WAS-AixPPC32-FP00000019.tar to /u01/wp6/AppServer

    • tar xvf 6.0.2-WS-WAS-AixPPC32-FP00000019.tar

    • cd /u01/wp6/AppServer/bin

    • . ./setupCmdLine.sh

    • cd /u01/wp6/AppServer/bin

    • ./backupConfig.sh /tmp/backupConfig_default.zip -user wasadmin -password password

    • cd ../updateinstaller

    • ./update -silent

    • Verify success by looking at log files in...

      /u01/wp6/AppServer/logs/update

  3. On node1srvr, install WebSphere Portal version 6.0 refresh pack 1

  4. On dmgrsrvr, install Java SDK 1.4.2 Cumulative Fix

  5. On dmgrsrvr, install IBM WAS V6.0.2.19

Note that in version 6.0.1.1 WCM can fail to start if WAS variable is not defined. See PK49826

iFix Portlet

The iFix Portlet identifies and obtains relevant fixes leveraging IBM's electronic Fix Service Provider (FSP).

  2. Detects installed iFixes and Fix Packs.

  3. Lists the missing iFixes based on the installed components on WP.

  4. User-friendly UI with iFixes details, pre-requisites & criticality indicators.

  5. Sort & search functions.

  6. Direct download of iFixes on WP from any client browser.

Scenario 1

Without iFix...

  1. Log into the IBM support site to check if an APAR is available for the problem

  2. Type in a keyword related to the problem in search

  3. List of APARs are displayed. Manually sorts through the long list of APARs to find the suitable APARs

  4. Manually find the appropriate pre-requisites for the selected APARs.

With iFix Portlet

  1. Invoke the iFix Portlet on his/her Portal.

  2. Type in the problem description text

  3. The iFix Portlet shows the list of related iFixes required but not yet installed.

  4. Scan the displayed list of iFixes to identify the one that addresses the problem.

  5. The pre-requisites are displayed for the identified iFixes.
