Configuring the IBM Lotus QuickPlace server and Lotus QuickPlace portlets requires a set of tasks performed on both the Lotus QuickPlace server and the portal server.

This topic lists the required procedures for configuring the following two portlets to work with both the Lotus QuickPlace server and the portal server:

  • Inline QuickPlace
  • My Lotus QuickPlaces

Perform all the procedures in the following list to configure these portlets. Unless otherwise noted, all the procedures are required for both portlets.

Checklist of tasks

  1. Configuring the WebSphere Portal server to recognize Lotus QuickPlace
You run the IBM Lotus QuickPlace configuration task on the IBM WebSphere Portal server. Running the task allows the portal to recognize the presence of the Lotus QuickPlace server so that Lotus Collaborative Services can use the server for Lotus QuickPlace portlets.

  2. Configuring the list of servers for the Inline QuickPlace portlet
You configure a Domino LDAP server to support the drop-down server list for Inline QuickPlace by making sure the Domino server is running the DIIOP task and by enabling users to run Java agents. This procedure is not necessary for the My Lotus QuickPlaces portlet.

  3. Pointing the My Lotus QuickPlaces portlet to an alternate Lotus QuickPlace server (optional)
If the organization has more than one IBM Lotus QuickPlace server, we can use a My Lotus QuickPlaces portlet to view QuickPlaces on any of them, not just the server that is configured to work with Collaborative Services.

  4. Adding the QPServlet application to the Lotus QuickPlace server
Add the QPServlet to the IBM Lotus QuickPlace server. The QPServlet application (stored in the Java archive file cs.jar) allows the My Lotus QuickPlaces portlet to retrieve information from the Lotus QuickPlace server. This procedure is not necessary for the Inline QuickPlace portlet.

  5. Configuring the Search All Places feature
Configure the Search All Places feature for the My Lotus QuickPlaces portlet to support three features of the portlet - My Pages, Search this place, and Search my QuickPlaces - that are not configured by default. This procedure is not required for the Inline QuickPlace portlet.

  6. Copying the Java files for chat and awareness in Inline QuickPlace
Because the Inline QuickPlace portlet uses an iFrame, configure files directly on the IBM Lotus QuickPlace server to support awareness in the portlet.

  7. Designating the Sametime Community server for Inline QuickPlace
Specify the name of the Sametime server in the QuickPlace Server Settings room.

  8. Enabling Lotus QuickPlace members to schedule online meetings in Inline QuickPlace
You specify the name of a IBM Lotus QuickPlace administrator and Internet name of the Lotus QuickPlace server to enable members to schedule online meetings.

  9. Setting up Web Conferencing for Inline QuickPlace
Set up the Inline QuickPlace portlet to correctly create and update Sametime Meetings on a Sametime Web Conferencing server. Because the Inline QuickPlace portlet uses an iFrame, configure files directly on the QuickPlace server to support scheduling meetings in the portlet.
