Publications supplied with the product
The WebSphere MQ documentation is supplied separately on a CD alongside the product. We can either view the documents directly from CD, or we can install them on your computer (either before or after installing the WebSphere MQ product).
The WebSphere MQ online documentation is delivered as an Information Center (Help Center) based on the Eclipse framework integrated with WebSphere MQ, and PDF formats on CD.
Viewing the Information Center
Insert the Documentation CD and click the View button on the View or Install Information Center window. The Information Center launches in a browser window after a few moments. We can also view the WebSphere MQ Information Center by selecting Help > Help Contents > WebSphere MQ Help Center from the WebSphere MQ Explorer.
Installing and running the WebSphere MQ Information Center
We can install the Information Center on any Windows system supported by the WebSphere MQ V.6.0 product.
To install the Information Center:
- Insert the Documentation CD and click the Install button on the View or Install Information Center window.
- Accept the license agreement terms and work through the panels in the WebSphere MQ Information Center V6.0 Setup wizard.
- We can select which languages to install from the Features panel. By default, the Information Center for your language is installed. We can also choose to install PDFs from this panel. Left click on the PDFs in any of the languages to view the installation options.
Ending the Information Center
Click the Stop button on the View Information Center window.
After closing the help center, terminate the javaw process by invoking the strmqinf command with the /shutdown command switch. We can create a shortcut with C:\WebSphere MQ Info60\bin\strmqinf.exe" /shutdown in the 'target' field. Use this shortcut to end the Information Center.
A PDF (Portable Document Format), corresponding to each book, is available on the documentation CD. We can read PDFs using Adobe Acrobat Reader. We can choose to install the PDFs at the same time as you install the Information Center. Also, we can download them to your own file system, or we can print them on a PostScript printer.
The PDFs are available in U.S. English in the <Information Center install directory>\docs\pdf\en_US directory, and also in some or all of the following national languages. After you have installed the PDFs, we can find the files in the directory in which you installed the Information Center. To find out which ones are available in your language, look for the appropriate directory on the CD in the form <Information Center install directory>\docs\pdf\ll_LL, where ll_LL is one of the following:
- de_DE (German)
- es_ES (Spanish)
- fr_FR (French)
- it_IT (Italian)
- ja_JP (Japanese)
- ko_KR (Korean)
- pt_BR (Brazilian Portuguese)
- zh_CN (Simplified Chinese)
- zh_TW (Traditional Chinese)
Within these directories, we can find the complete set of PDFs that are available. Table 2 shows the file names used for the PDF files.
