Publications supplied with the product
The WebSphere MQ documentation is supplied separately on a CD-ROM alongside the product. We can either view the documents directly from CD, or we can install them on your computer (either before or after installing the WebSphere MQ product).
The WebSphere MQ online documentation is delivered as on the documentation CD-ROM as PDFs on all platforms and as an Information Center on Linux (x86 platform) and Windows only.
Installing and running the WebSphere MQ Information Center on Linux
Documentation for WebSphere MQ V6.0 is supplied as an Information Center based on the Eclipse framework. We can install the Information Center on any Linux (x86 platform) system supported by the WebSphere MQ Version.6.0 product.
Prerequisite software
To use the Information Center have Mozilla 1.4.3 or later installed on your system.
Installing the Information Center
The WebSphere MQ Information Center is supplied as two rpm packages on the Documentation CD for Linux. To install the Information Center:
- Ensure you are logged in to the system as the root user.
- Change to the directory containing the rpm files (the root directory of the CD or the directory to which they have been downloaded).
- Issue the command:
rpm -ivh MQSeriesHelpSys-6.0.0-0.i386.rpm MQSeriesInfoCen-6.0.0-0.i386.rpmTo uninstall the Information Center, issue the command:rpm -e MQSeriesHelpSys MQSeriesInfoCen
Starting the Information Center
To start the Information Center, issue the command strmqinf This command starts the Information Center server in the background and opens a Web browser window at the Information Center welcome page.
Configuration information is stored in a directory .mqhelpdata in the user's home directory.
Note that if you open the WebSphere MQ Quick Tour from the Getting Started section of the Information Center, the text might occasionally not display when you select a language. If this happens, click the navigation buttons located in the bottom right corner of the Quick Tour window to display the text.
Ending the Information Center
To stop the Information Center background process, issue the command: endmqinf
A PDF (Portable Document Format), corresponding to each hardcopy book, is available on the documentation CD-ROM. We can read PDFs using Adobe Acrobat Reader. Additionally, we can download them to your own file system, or print them.
The PDFs are available in U.S. English in the en_US directory, and also in some or all of the following national languages. To find out which ones are available in your language, look for the appropriate directory on the CD-ROM. The PDFs are in a subdirectory called ll_LL, where ll_LL is one of the following:
- de_DE (German)
- es_ES (Spanish)
- fr_FR (French)
- it_IT (Italian)
- ja_JP (Japanese)
- ko_KR (Korean)
- pt_BR (Brazilian Portuguese)
- zh_CN (Simplified Chinese)
- zh_TW (Traditional Chinese)
Within these directories, we can find the complete set of PDFs that are available. Hardcopy books shows the file names used for the PDF files.
Infopops in the WebSphere MQ Explorer (Linux x86 and Windows only)
Infopops are provided in the WebSphere MQ Explorer for Linux and Windows. They provide context-sensitive help from any part of the GUI. On Windows, we can:
- click a folder
- click a properties page
- click a view
- highlight a menu item
then press Crtl+F1. A small yellow box appears and displays some help information that typically contains one or more links to more detailed information.
