Number of users and items in the cache

Set these variables to specify the number of users and items the handler will keep in its cache. To set the time for the user and item caches to be purged, see Time users and items are kept in the cache.

You can assign users as either permanent or temporary. Permanent users are users whose profiles are written to the database. Temporary user profiles are not written to the database; they are only stored in cache. The advantage of reserving the database only for permanent users is that it improves performance, which is particularly useful for large sites.
