Overview

Components store content that can then be referenced in another WCM item (e.g., Text Component, Image Component) or generate content based on selected parameters (e.g., Menus, Navigators).

Components are either stored in the Component Library, or form part of a Site, Site Area or Content item. Components are referenced within Presentation Templates. When the final web page is generated, the content of the Presentation Template and components are combined to form a complete page.

Components allow one to insert a standard item into more than one WCM item, giving one the ability to update a component across many pages within a web site by editing the one component.
