Preparing a remote Web server on Linux

Install and configure the Web server plug-in, provided by IBM® WebSphere® Application Server, to set up your Web server to communicate with IBM WebSphere Portal Express.

Perform the following steps to install and configure your Web server:

  1. Install and configure the Web server; refer to the Web server documentation for information.
  2. If using IBM Lotus® Domino®, edit the NOTES.INI file on the Web server. Set the HTTPEnableConnectorHeaders parameter to 1.
  3. Stop the Web server.
  4. Install and configure the Web server plug-in on the system where the Web server is located using the Plug-ins installation wizard provided with WebSphere Application Server. Refer to Selecting a Web server topology diagram and roadmap for information. Note: The WebSphere Application Server Web server instructions are for the default profile. If not using the default profile, refer to Configuring a Web server for a non-default profile.
  5. Start the Web server.
  6. Optional: Perform the following steps to access the Web Content Management content through an external Web server:

    1. Log on to the deployment manager administrative console.
    2. Select Environment > WebSphere Variables.
    3. Perform the following steps to narrow the scope of the listed variables:

      1. Click Browse Nodes in the Scope field.
      2. Select the node containing your application server.
      3. Click Browse Servers.
      4. Select the WebSphere_Portal server and click OK.
      5. Click Apply to update the list of variables.
    4. Update the WCM_HOST variable with the fully qualified host name of the Web server.
    5. Update the WCM_PORT variable with the port number used to access the Web server.
  7. Enter the following commands to stop and restart the WebSphere_Portal server from the wp_profile_root/bin:

    1. ./stopServer.sh WebSphere_Portal -user admin_userid -password admin_password
    2. ./startServer.sh WebSphere_Portal
