Application template properties
Use the Properties portlet to view and edit the properties of a template that defines applications. From the drop-down menu of an application template that is listed in the Application Template Library, click Edit Template Properties to display the properties of an application template.
Properties specify the values of elements that define an application template: name, category, description, theme, owner, creation date and time, and revision date and time. If you have permission, you can edit the template name, category, and description. The template name and description are self-explanatory: Enter text to change the template name and description. The template description can be any length. The category, theme, and owner properties require special consideration.
- Category
- The category specified by the template helps to organize the applications created from the template. You can select an existing category from the list. If you have permission, you can create a new category. For simplicity, use nouns or noun phrases for new category names. Changing the category of a template or creating a new category does not affect the content of the template or the content of existing applications that apply the template.
- Theme
- The application template specifies the theme for application pages and the policy that controls theme style. You cannot edit the theme in the Template Properties portlet. The theme defines the navigation, appearance, and layout of the pages of the application template, including fonts, colors, and images. Each application template uses the default value Inherit Parent Theme Style. All applications created from this template use the theme specified by the server for the work site. All applications that inherit the parent theme will have a uniform appearance, typically the one used to establish the brand identity of the organization. The theme style for application pages is controlled by the policy for themes. Each application template uses the default value Inherit Parent Theme Style. Each application page can also have a theme specified for it.
- To set the theme for all top-level pages of an application template, follow these steps:
- From the main menu click Templates; then click Template Library.
- From the menu of an application template, click Edit Template Layout.
- For a selected page, click the Edit Page Properties icon to see the specified theme. If other themes are listed, you can choose a different theme for the application template page.
- Owner
- The owner is the name of the user who created the application template. If you are the owner of an application template, you can delegate ownership of the template to another user using the Resource Permissions portlet.
- From the drop-down menu of the application template, click Assign Template Permissions to display the Resource Permissions portlet, the Roles view. Verify the individual users and user groups who are assigned the role types Security Administrator, Delegator, and Manager. Refer to the information provided in the table of the Access Rights topic for the resource Access Control Administration and the operation Modifying the owner of a resource.
