Backing up a DB2 database on Windows or Linux

Create either an offline backup or an online backup of a IBM® DB2 Universal Database™ Enterprise Server Edition using the appropriate utility.

Ensure that you have a DB2 Administration ID and the sysadm, syscontrol, or sysmaint privileges.

To back up a DB2 database, follow these steps:

  1. Enable logging for the type of backup that you are performing.
  2. Use the DB2 Backup Wizard, specifying offline or online backup, to create a single database backup.
  3. Use the DB2 Configuring Automatic Maintenance Wizard to schedule automatic database backups.

Using the wizard, you can define online and offline maintenance windows that control when database backups are performed and what type of backup is performed. You can also use this wizard to schedule automatic maintenance activities. For example, perform data access optimization using the RUNSTATS command and perform data defragmentation using the REORG command.
