Adding new users
You must add users so that they can access resources.

The objective of this
task is to step you through the process of adding users.
What you
need to complete this task:
You must have at least the Editor@USERS
role to create users and the Editor@USER_GROUPS role to create user groups.
USERS and USER_GROUPS are virtual resources.

Steps for this task:
Note: As
you follow the instructions for this task, refer to Special characters in user IDs and passwords for
more information on the characters you can use in the User ID, password, first
name, and last name fields.
- Log in to your portal as the portal administrator.
- Click from the main menu or launch menu, or the quick link on the
bottom bar, or the embedded link on the Welcome page, or the URL mapping.
- Click .
- Select the user group to which the user will be added.
- Click New User or New Group.
- If you are creating a new user group, enter a name for the user
group.
- If you are creating a new user, do the following:
- Enter a User ID for the new user. The User ID must be 3 to 60
characters in length. It can contain alphanumeric characters, DBCS, and the
hyphen "-", period ".", and underscore "_" characters. No other characters
are permitted in this field.
- Enter and confirm a password for the new user. The password
must be unique and 5 to 60 characters in length. Valid passwords may contain
only the characters a-z, A-Z, period ".", dash "-", and underscore "_ ".
- Enter a first name for the new user.
- Enter a last name for the new user.
- Optional: Enter an e-mail address for the new user.
This field is not required for successful creation of a new user.
Note: If you use an LDAP server for your users and groups, your LDAP
configuration might place additional restrictions on user and group names.
For example, the LDAP configuration might require user names and passwords
to be a minimum of 8 characters in length.
- Select Preferred language from the drop down list. This
field is not required for successful creation of a new user. If you do not
select a preferred language or if the language is not supported by the portal,
the default language is the default IBM® WebSphere® Portal Express language.
- Click OK.
