Create and manage groups on AIX
On AIX, providing we are not using NIS or NIS+, use SMITTY to work with groups.
On AIX, we can use SMITTY to create a group, add a user to a group, display a list of the users who are in the group, and remove a user from a group.
Procedure
- From SMITTY, select Security and Users and press Enter.
- Select Groups and press Enter.

To create a group, complete the following steps:
- Select Add a Group and press Enter.
- Enter the name of the group and the names of any users that we want to add to the group, separated by commas.
- Press Enter to create the group.

To add a user to a group, complete the following steps:
- Select Change / Show Characteristics of Groups and press Enter.
- Enter the name of the group to show a list of the members of the group.
- Add the names of the users that we want to add to the group, separated by commas.
- Press Enter to add the names to the group.

To display who is in a group, complete the following steps:
- Select Change / Show Characteristics of Groups and press Enter.
- Enter the name of the group to show a list of the members of the group.

To remove a user from a group, complete the following steps:
- Select Change / Show Characteristics of Groups and press Enter.
- Enter the name of the group to show a list of the members of the group.
- Delete the name of the user that we want to remove from the group.
- Press Enter to remove the name from the group.
