Use the IBM Connections Activities portlet
The IBM Connections Activities portlet lets you view and create activities, and work with to do items.The Activities portlet lets you interact with the IBM Connections Activities features so you can use activities to organize your collaborative work without leaving your IBM WebSphere Portal environment. The portlet has two views, My Activities and To Dos List.
The My Activities view displays activities that you created or that you belong to. From the My Activities view you can:
- Click Start an Activity to create a new activity. Assign it a title and optionally enter a description, goal, or tags. Add members for your activity and save it to add it to your list.
- Click Completed to view completed activities.
- Click High priority to view activities that are flagged as needing your immediate attention.
- Click Medium priority to view activities that are not as pressing.
- Sort the view by clicking the column header for Last Updated or by Due Date.
Click an activity name to open it. From the activity you can do the following:
- Click Add to do item to create a to do. You can assign it to yourself or to another user. You can also optionally assign a priority, due date, tags, and a description.
- Click Add Entry to add an entry to the activity.
- Click Add Section to create a section to keep your activity organized.
- Respond to a to do item by marking it complete, or click More to add a comment, edit, or delete the to do.
- If you are the activity owner, click Members to add members to the activity. You can assign a member owner, author, or reader access.
- View emails and chat transcripts saved to the activity. Comment on this content or create associated to do items.
Switch to the To Do List view to work with your to do items.
- Click Assigned to me to view all to do items assigned to you.
- Click Created by me to see all to dos you created.
- Click Incomplete To do Items to only view to dos you have not yet complete.
- Click Completed To Do Items to view items you have completed.

Personalizing the activities portlet
Specify or edit the login name and password you use to access the Activities service.
About this task
If you do not know the user name and password for accessing an IBM Connections service, consult with your IBM Connections administrator.To personalize a portlet, do the following:
Procedure
- From the Portlet Menu, which is available from the down-arrow icon to the right, select Personalize.
- Enter a User Name and Password or update this information if it has changed.
- Click OK to save your changes or Cancel to return to the view without saving your changes.
Edit shared settings
Edit the settings shared across all the IBM Connections portlets.
About this task
You must have at least editor access for the page and for the portlet to be able to edit shared settings for Connections features. For more information on access levels, see the WebSphere Portal Information Center. Note that settings you enter on this page can be overridden by settings on the Personalize page for a portlet.To edit shared settings...
Procedure
- From the Portlet Menu, select Edit Shared Settings.
- Enter a User Name and Password or update this information if it has changed.
- Choose which views to display in the portlet.
- Click OK to save your changes or Cancel to return to the view without saving your changes.
Configure the portlet
If you are the administrator, you can specify or edit the server addresses for the IBM Connections features.
Before starting
You must have administrative access to the portlet to be able to configure it.

To configure the portlet...
Procedure
- From the Portlet Menu, select Configure.
- Specify the Web address of the server hosting Activities in the associated Activities URL field and enter the URLs for the Profiles and Communities servers.
If you do not know the Web address for a feature, refer to the LotusConnections-config.xml file. This file is stored in the following directory of the system that hosts IBM Connections:
- Windows™:
C:\IBM\WebSphere\AppServer\profiles\<profile_name>\config\cells\ <cell_name>\LotusConnections-config\LotusConnections-config.xml
- Linux™:
/opt/IBM/WebSphere/AppServer/profiles/<profile_name>/config/cells/ <cell_name>/LotusConnections-config/LotusConnections-config.xml
- Optional: Check the option to Display icon to launch Connections to display an icon that opens IBM Connections in a browser so users can fully access the application.
- Optional: Check the option to Allow links to open Connections in a browser windowoption if you want activity title links to open the recent updates page for that activity in a browser window.
- Optional: The option Display page controls only in bottom bar hides the page controls at the top of the window. Clear the checkbox to display paging controls at the top as well as the bottom of the page.
- Click Save to save your changes or Cancel to return to the current feature view without saving your changes.
Importing the IBM Connections certificate for your browser
Import the security certificate for IBM Connections to avoid warnings from your browser.
Before starting
In order to view bookmark and activity icons, import a security certificate. If you do not, your browser will put up security alerts when it displays IBM Connections icons.
About this task
Follow the steps for the browser you are using.
Procedure
- To install a certificate for Microsoft™ Internet Explorer version 6.x:
- Open the Internet Explorer browser and navigate to your Connections Server over https.
For example: https://connections.acme.com:9443/activities .
- Click the Certificate Icon located on the bottom corner of the browser window.
- Click Install Certificate.
- Follow the steps in the Install Certificate wizard.
Keep the default settings and respond "Yes" to the security warning.
- Follow the installation, log onto the IBM WebSphere Portal server running the IBM Connections portlets and verify you do not get the security warning when you use the Activities or Bookmarks portlets.
- To install a certificate for Microsoft Internet Explorer version 7.x:
- Open the Internet Explorer browser and navigate to your Connections Server over https.
For example: https://connections.acme.com:9443/activities .
- Click the Certificate Error dropdown next to the Address bar at the top of the browser window.
- Click View Certificates.
- Click Install Certificate.
- Follow the steps in the Install Certificate wizard.
Keep the default settings and ignore any security warning.
- Follow the installation, log onto the IBM WebSphere Portal server running the IBM Connections portlets and verify you do not get the security warning when you use the Activities or Bookmarks portlets.
- To install a certificate for Firefox Mozilla version 3x:
- Open Firefox Mozilla browser and navigate to your Connections Server over https.
For example: https://connections.acme.com:9443/activities . You will be prompted with a security warning.
- Click the Or you can add an Exception link on the security dialog box.
- Click Add Exception.
- Click Get Certificate.
- Follow the steps in the Install Certificate wizard.
- Follow the installation, log onto the IBM WebSphere Portal server running the IBM Connections portlets and verify you do not get the security warning when you use the Activities or Bookmarks portlets.
