Use IBM Support Assistant lite 

IBM Support Assistant (ISA) lite is a tool that is installed with IBM Connections that helps you gather data to provide to service personnel. You can use ISA Lite to automate data collection and therefor expedite problem resolution.

Before starting

This tool requires JRE 1.4.2 or later to run successfully.

About this task

You can use ISA lite to collect data from a system running the AIX , Linux™, Microsoft™ Windows™, and System z for Linux operating systems. ISA lite can only collect data associated with database issues when you are using IBM DB2 ; it does not have a collector for Oracle nor SQL Server databases. You can use command line or graphical user interface mode.

Procedure

1. Find the ISA lite tool in the following directory:

   • AIX, Linux or System z for Linux: /opt/IBM/LotusConnections/data/shared/tools/isa/LC3.0_ISA_Lite.tar

   • Microsoft Windows: C:\IBM\LotusConnections\data\shared\tools\isa\LC3.0_ISA_Lite.zip

2. Copy the LC3.0_ISA_Lite file to the appropriate system:

   • To collect information about the installation wizard, copy the file to the system hosting the deployment manager.

   • To collect information about the DB2 database, copy the file to the system hosting the DB2 database.

   • To collect information about one of the applications, copy the file to the node hosting that application.

3. Extract the LC3.0_ISA_Lite file.

4. Update the value of the JAVA_HOME environment variable on the current system to include the JRE 1.4.2 by opening a command window, and then entering the following command:

   • AIX, Linux, or System z for Linux: export JAVA_HOME=<path to JRE>.
     The exact command to use differs depending on the shell you are using. For example, for the bash shell: export JAVA_HOME=/opt/jre142
     

   • Microsoft Windows: SET JAVA_HOME=<path to JRE>
     For example: SET JAVA_HOME=c:\jre1.4.2
     

5. Start the tool by running the executable file that corresponds to the mode you want to run the tool in.

   • Graphical user interface:

     • AIX, Linux, or System z for Linux: runISALite.sh

     • Microsoft Windows: runISALite.bat

   • Command-line:

     • AIX, Linux, or System z for Linux: runISALiteConsole.sh

     • Microsoft Windows: runISALiteConsole.bat

6. To collect data, perform the following steps:

   • Graphical user interface:

     1. Select the feature for which you want to collect data from the following list:

        • IBM Connections Activities Collection

        • IBM Connections Authentication Collection

        • IBM Connections Blog Collection

        • IBM Connections Bookmarks Collection

        • IBM Connections Communities Collection

        • IBM Connections DB2 Collection

        • IBM Connections Files Collection

        • IBM Connections Forums Collection

        • IBM Connections General Collection

        • IBM Connections Homepage Collection

        • IBM Connections IBM HTTP Server Collection

        • IBM Connections Install Collection

        • IBM Connections Mobile Collection

        • IBM Connections News Collection

        • IBM Connections Profiles Collection

        • IBM Connections Search Collection

        • IBM Connections Wikis Collection

     2. Provide a path and file name for the file to which you want to save the resulting data collection. Include a .zip file extension.

     3. Click Collect Data.

     4. Follow the instructions. For example, you might be asked to specify directory in which WAS is installed, or the application server administrative user ID and password.
        

   • Command-line:

     1. When prompted, enter the name of the file to which you want the tool to send the resulting data. Include the relative path to the file. For example, you might enter /tmp/activities.zip.

     2. When asked to confirm, enter yes.

     3. Enter the number of the collection that you want to run.
        
        You can only run the IBM Connections DB2 Collection if the tool is installed on the same system hosting the database. Likewise, you can only run the IBM Connections Install Collection if the tool is installed on the system hosting the deployment manager.
        

     4. Enter the root directory of the WAS that is running the application that you want to collect from. For example, you might enter /opt/IBM/WebSphere/AppServer.
        
        If you select the Install Collection, you are asked to provide the root directory of the deployment manager and if you select the DB2 Collection, you are asked to provide the root directory for the DB2 database.
        

     5. Start collecting data by typing 1 when prompted.
