Uploading files using the Files Shared with Me widget

Use the Files Shared with Me widget to upload files to the Files application.

About this task

When you've finished working on a file and you're ready to share it with others, or you want to store it so that you can retrieve later, you can use the Files Shared with Me widget to upload the file to the Files application.

Procedure

To upload a file...

  1. Click Upload.

Select this option opens the Files application.

  2. Click Upload a File.

  3. Click Browse to browse to the file location. Alternatively, enter the file path in the File field.

  4. Enter a file name in the Name field.

  5. Optional: Enter a tag or tags in the Tags field. A tag is a single-word label or keyword that you assign to a file to categorize it. You can use this tag to find the file later by clicking the tag in the tag cloud or tag list.

  6. Optional: Specify visibility settings for the file by selecting one of the following options.

    1. To make the file private, select No one.

When you select this option, only you can see and edit the file.

    2. To share the file with specific people:

      1. Select People/Communities.

      2. Ensure that Person is selected from the first drop-down menu, and then select the access level that you want the person or people to have to the file:

          Reader

Users with this access level can read, comment on, download, and recommend a file. They can add a file to their own collection, receive notifications about changes to the file, and share the file with others.

          Editor

Users with this access level can read, edit, comment on, download, recommend, upload a new version, and set properties on the file. They can also add a file to a collection of theirs, be notified of changes to the file, share it with other people, and delete versions of it.

      3. Enter a name or email address in the field provided. Type-ahead predicts the name of the person that you are entering as you type. If you see the name that you want, click to select it. If the name does not display, click Person not listed? Use full search to search the company directory for the person.

    3. To share the file with a community:

      1. Select People/Communities.

      2. Select Community from the first drop-down menu. All community members are automatically given the Reader role by default.

      3. Enter a community name in the field provided.

    4. To make the file publicly available, select Public.

When you select this option, the file is visible to everyone, even users who are not logged in.

  7. Optional: If you want people to be able to share the file with others, select Allow others to share this file.

Note: This option is only available when you select People/Communities or Public in the previous step.

  8. Optional: Click Add an optional message to include a message to the community with whom you are sharing the file.

Note: This option is only available when you select People/Communities or Public in the previous step.

  9. Click Upload.
