Understand workflow support in the Blogs Portlet
The IBM Connections Blogs portlet supports very basic subset of workflow features that are available in the IBM Connections Blogs application. The features available from the Blogs portlet depend on whether the portlets are associated with IBM Connections 3.0 or higher or IBM Connections 2.5.
IBM Connections 3.0 Blogs workflow features
Workflow features depend on whether you are a blog owner, author, or draft member, as follows:
- Blog owners can create and edit all entries except the ones in draft or pending approval state. All new blog entries and edits are published immediately. To create draft entries, approve or reject entries created or edited by blog draft members or authors, use the Connections icon to navigate to the Connections Blogs application for the full workflow features.
- Blog authors can create, edit and comment on their own blog entries. All new blog entries and edits are published immediately. To create draft entries or edit and comment entries created by other blog members, use the Connections icon to navigate to the Connections Blogs application for the full workflow features. When a blog author creates a draft entry in the Connections Blogs application, that entry can only be edited in the Blogs application.
- Blog draft members can create, edit and comment on their own blog entries once approved. All new blog entries and edits will be submitted for approval by the blog owner. To create draft entries or comment entries created by other blog members, use the Connections icon to navigate to the Connections Blogs application for the full workflow features. When a blog daft member creates a draft entry in the Connections Blogs application, that entry can only be edited in the Blogs application. Blog entries that have been saved as a draft in the Connections Blogs application or require approval will be indicated as "Draft" or "Require Approval" when viewing the blog.
IBM Connections 2.5 Blogs workflow features
If you are using the IBM Connections 3.0 or 3.0.1 portlets with an IBM Connections 2.5 server, be aware that there are some differences in Blogs workflow. Because of differences in the Blogs API, there are some differences in the features for some of the blog member roles, as follows:
- Blog owner: Same features as IBM Connections 3.0.
- Blog author: Same features as IBM Connections 3.0.
- Blog draft members: Similar features as IBM Connections 3.0 except that draft authors cannot edit or comment on any entries in the portlet. The status indicator was added to the blog feed in IBM Connections 3.0 so draft and pending blog entries will not be indicated as "Draft" or "Require Approval" when viewing the blog.
