Performing an advanced search

Perform an advanced search to search multiple fields and return results from all of the IBM Lotus Connections features. You can perform an advanced search from any of the Lotus Connections features.

An advanced search allows you to search across all the Lotus Connections features to find the information that you need. For example, searching on the keyword "project" across all the features returns a list of results with the word "project" in the title, description, tags, or content. The information returned can include content from any of the features included in your installation of Lotus Connections, such as bookmarks, activities, blogs, communities, files, people, and wikis.

When you perform an advanced search, your query is analyzed to return the optimum results. As part of the operation, search performs a linguistic analysis to ensure that different word forms, such as plurals, verb endings, and grammatical tenses, are matched correctly in the search results. For example, when you search for the term "goose", you might expect to get results that contain the term "geese." Similarly, when you search for the term "run", you might expect to get results that include the terms "ran" or "running." Search engines refer to this functionality as stemming. However, Lotus Connections uses a different approach, which is based on dictionaries rather than changing word endings.

You can choose to limit your search to one or more Lotus Connections features if you want to narrow your results to content from specific areas. For example, a search for the keyword "project" that is limited to the Activities feature only returns entries from Activities with the word "project" in the title, description, tags, or content. You can further narrow your search results by choosing to search your own content only. For example, searching the Communities feature when Search MY content is selected searches only those communities that you are an owner or member of.
