Issues when using imcl from the IM installer

We can use imcl commands with either:

Installed version of Installation Manager
Installation Manager installer

Because of compatibility limitations among different versions of IM, issues can occur when we use imcl from the IM installer. A version of IM is compatible with earlier releases of IM. The same version of IM is not compatible with later releases. To use imcl from the IM installer when IM is installed, use the -datalocation option to specify an agent data location. The agent data location must not be the same location where IM is installed.

In the following examples, imcl commands are issued from the IM installer and IM is not installed.

Example 1:
Product A includes IM v1.7. Product B includes IM v1.6.3. We install Product A using imcl commands for v1.7. The installation of Product B that uses imcl commands for v1.6.3 fails. Version 1.6.3 of the imcl commands are not compatible with the later version of imcl commands that Product A uses. We must use the imcl commands from v1.7 to install Product B.

Example 2:
We install Product B using IM v1.6.3. Next, we install Product A using IM v1.7 We cannot uninstall Product B using the imcl commands from v1.6.3; use the imcl commands from v1.7.
