IBM Business Monitor, V8.0.1 > Install IBM Business Monitor
Plan to install IBM Business Monitor
IBM Business Monitor has multiple components that can be installed on a single server or across multiple servers in the network. During the installation process, there are many options to consider. When planning to install IBM Business Monitor, you must consider the available options and how you want to deploy the components in your network.
Information is provided to help you to determine which topology is most appropriate for your environment and to understand the options that are available during the installation.
Review the following information before beginning your IBM Business Monitor installation:
When install IBM Cognos Business Intelligence and IBM Business Monitor, ensure that IBM Cognos BI is installed using the same bit mode as WebSphere Application Server.
- Naming considerations for profiles, nodes, servers, hosts, and cells
This topic discusses reserved terms and issues you must consider when naming your profile, node, server, host, and cell (if applicable). This topic applies to distributed platforms.- Choose appropriate topologies
IBM Business Monitor can be installed in many different configurations. A few basic topologies are provided. You might need to customize these to fit your environment.- Profiles
A profile defines the runtime environment and includes all of the files that the server processes in the runtime environment. In a high availability environment, you need multiple profiles to appropriately manage the complexity of the system. You can either create new profiles or augment existing profiles.- Database considerations
The main MONITOR database stores the IBM Business Monitor configuration, monitor model metadata, and monitored data. The IBM Cognos Business Intelligence configuration is stored in a separate IBM Cognos BI content store database named COGNOSCS. Profile creation assumes that both the MONITOR and COGNOSCS database are created in the same database instance. If you already have the required level of IBM Cognos BI installed and running, you do not need to create an IBM Cognos BI content store database. The existing IBM Cognos BI server will have the content store database.- User registry considerations
The user registry stores information used to authenticate users using basic authentication. Your choice of user registry is an essential consideration when planning your environment. You must configure WebSphere Application Server to use the user registry in your environment.- Non-administrative user considerations
If installing IBM Business Monitor as a non-administrative or non-root user and you want to create a test profile during installation, you must have the DB2 server installed before you begin the installation. Remember the database details so that you can enter them during the installation.
- Topology considerations
In IBM Business Monitor, you can select from several different configuration paths to create your deployment environment.
