Migrating a z/OS ND environment

The migration process does not automatically back up the files on the source server, so it is good practice to back up the files on the source server before running the migration.

This information is applicable if you are migrating a V7.5, 7.0, or 6.2.0 node to a V8.0.1 node.

Before you migrate your IBM BPM ND environment, install a V8.0.1 ND configuration of the same type on z/OS .

Also augment the newer version (V8.0.1) configuration to use the same database that the older version (V7.5, 7.0, or 6.2.0) configuration uses. You need to only install and augment the dmgr and managed nodes in the V8.0.1 configuration. Do not federate any of the nodes or configure any other components, such as Business Process Choreographer.

Important: Use the same cell name and node name when migrating from V7.5, 7.0, or 6.2.0 to V8.0.1. If you use different cell names and node names, federated nodes cannot successfully migrate to the V8.0.1 cell.

You can migrate an ND environment from one version to another, without the need to reconfigure any components in the environment.

Migrating a base IBM BPM V8.0.1 node that is within a cell also migrates the node agent to V8.0.1. A cell can have some V8.0.1 nodes and other nodes that are at V7.5, 7.0, or 6.2.0.

If, before migration, Business Process Rules Manager is running on any of the deployment targets (servers or clusters), review the following topic before starting to migrate: installBRManager command-line utility.

  1. Migrating a dmgr

You can migrate a dmgr. The migration process does not automatically back up the files on the source server, so it is good practice to back up the files on the source server before running the migration.

  2. Migrating a managed node
When you migrate a managed node, the migration process does not automatically back up the files on the source server, so it is good practice to back up the files on the source server before running the migration.
  3. Migrating a cluster
After you have migrated your dmgr and managed nodes, complete a number of cluster-related tasks before you can start the migrated servers.

What to do next

After you have successfully migrated your ND environment to V8.0.1, run the WpsUpdate.py script to ensure configuration consistency, as described in Update the configuration values for cluster members.
