Depending on the previous version of IBM BPM and its predecessor products you are migrating from, you have different methods of migration available to you. The roadmap identifies which migration methods are supported for each version of the product, as well as the high-level tasks that are required to complete that particular migration.
Migration
method support and high-level tasks to complete each migration type for IBM BPM

IBM BPM Advanced V7.5
or V7.5.1
| Artifact
migration with a new database
|
- Install IBM BPM V8.0.1
and configure new topology.
- Export and import the process applications from IBM BPM Advanced V7.5
or V7.5.1.
- Connect to the Process Center from Integration Designer and begin working with your imported process applications.
- Update the applications.
At this time, you can take advantage of any newer features added since
the previous version.
- Create a new
snapshot for your process applications. Unit test and install the new process applications on the Process Server.
| Both Process Server applications and process applications can use the new features.
|
Application
migration with a new database
|
- Install IBM BPM V8.0.1
and configure new topology.
- Install the Process Server applications from IBM BPM Advanced V7.5
or V7.5.1 using the administrative console.
- Export and import the process applications from IBM BPM Advanced V7.5
or V7.5.1.
| The EAR files installed using administrative console will not be able to use the new features of IBM BPM V8.0.1.
|
Runtime
migration
|
- Install IBM BPM V8.0.1.
- Use the provided migration
tools to migrate configuration and applications, and update the existing database.
| IBM provides tools to migrate applications and configuration as well as to upgrade existing databases.
