Choose the type of installation

Existing WAS instance The only available option is to perform a custom installation through the GUI. To perform a typical installation or a silent installation, install a new WAS instance.
Typical installation
  1. Installs the BPM software
  2. Configures a stand-alone profile

For when you are not using an existing WAS instance. The installation program uses default values for as many installation options as possible, and you supply values for the remaining options using a GUI.

You do not need to create a profile later using PMT or manageprofiles.sh.

The typical installation also installs Process Designer on your machine.

Custom installation using a GUI You can customize all installation settings.
Custom installation using command line You can run a command that specifies installation settings
Custom installation using response file. You create a file that specifies installation settings, and run an installation command that calls it.

If installing IBM BPM for z/OS, then there is only one type of installation available, and it is performed using commands.
