Create an XML Entity Cache

You can specify that WebLogic Server cache external entities that are referenced with a URL or a pathname relative to the main directory of the EAR archive, either at server-startup or when the entity is first referenced. You specify this by first creating an XML Entity Cache and then specifying for the particualr entity when it should be cached.

Caching the external entity saves the remote access time and provides a local backup in the event that the Administration Server cannot be accessed while an XML document is being parsed, due to the network or the Administration server being down.

To create an XML entity cache:

  1. If you have not already done so, in the Change Center of the Administration Console, click Lock & Edit (see Use the Change Center).

  2. In the left pane, expand Services and select XML Entity Caches.

  3. In the right pane, click New.

  4. Enter the name you want to give your new XML entity cache and its initial configuration options in the fields on the page:

    • Cache Location: The name of the directory, relative to the configuration directory of the Administration Server, which will contain the cached XML entities.

    • Cache Memory Size: The memory size, in KB, of the in-memory cache.

    • Cache Disk Size: The disk size, in MB, of the persistent disk cache.

    • Cache Timeout Interval: The number of seconds after which entities in the cache are considered stale.

    • Maximum Size: The maximum number of entries that can be stored in the cache at any given moment.

  5. Click OK.

  6. To activate these changes, in the Change Center of the Administration Console, click Activate Changes.
Not all changes take effect immediately—some require a restart (see Use the Change Center).

After you finish
